Back to School!

Back to School!  As August rolls in, it’s hard to believe that summer is winding down and a new school year is just around the corner. At New Horizon Therapy, this season always brings a sense of excitement—and opportunity. Whether your child is entering preschool or returning for another year of elementary school, the transition back to the classroom is a significant milestone, especially for children receiving speech and occupational therapy.
Routines are being reestablished, new teachers and classmates are being introduced, and communication demands naturally increase. From participating in group learning to following multi-step directions, strong speech and language skills are essential for academic success and social confidence.  That’s why August is such a critical time to continue therapy or revisit your child’s therapy plan. As a speech-language pathologist, I often see progress accelerate when therapy is aligned with a child’s daily school life. The skills we work on in our sessions—like expressive language, articulation, and comprehension—are directly tied to the challenges your child may face in the classroom.  We also know that transitions can sometimes be tough, especially for kids with communication or sensory differences. Our team is here to help support your child every step of the way—offering strategies to ease anxiety, improve focus, and ensure that they feel confident expressing themselves in a new environment.
As you prepare backpacks, check supply lists, and talk about the first day of school, don’t forget to check in on your child’s developmental goals. If you’re unsure whether your child might benefit from continued or new services, we’re happy to provide a screening or consultation.  At New Horizon Therapy, we believe every child deserves the tools to succeed—and the support to shine. Let’s make this school year the best one yet!
